Sunbeams

Waking up next to you,

Sunbeams from my window,

Illuminating your face,

Illuminating my faith.

I want to kiss you awake,

Taste your lips,

For breakfast.

I want to spend my mornings,

Kissing every inch of you.

And my evenings,

Bathing in moonlight with you,

Counting the stars,

And finding constellations.

I want to see Orion’s Belt reflected in your eyes.

And I hope you know,

I wished on a shooting star for you,

Lifted my hands toward heaven,

And begged God for you.

We promised we wouldn’t fall in love,

Pinkies twisted together.

Now our bodies are intertwined,

A knot so tight,

It’s hard to breath,

And I’ve got knots in my stomach,

Every time I think about letting you go,

Because I already ache so much when you’re gone.

I dread closing my eyes at night,

And not waking up next to you,

Not seeing sunbeams from my window,

Illuminating your face.
